So, Search Engine Land published an interesting post yesterday about backlinks.
I will link to the article in full below, but it leads with -
Can you rank in the top 10 of Google with very few links? Not according to a new analysis published today by Internet Marketing Ninjas. It found that:
- Over 96% of websites ranking in the top 10 of Google had more than 1,000 backlinks from unique domains.
- Only 0.3% had less than 100 backlinks.
It has always been a contentious issue, and Google has said that backlinks are not an important ranking factor!
But the results of this survey and the ensuing fallout from the recent updates clearly say otherwise.
This does leave us in the unfortunate position of trying to acquire backlinks in the first place, which is not easy if your content is not ranking and not being seen!
I am not going to say any more on this, as it is Partha's area of expertise and I believe he will be going into this topic in much more detail soon.

indeed, I never believed that Google wouldn't consider the number of backlinks.
SInce the recent updates, I have gone down 2 points in DA, which basically means I think that I have lost backlinks from other blogs, simply because they quit when losing their traffic as well. I haven't changed backlinks from socials or deleted any. It's a circle of traffic loss globaly.
Well, I'm not an expert of course, so I will leave it up to Partha as well hahaha!
