Maybe this is a bit of a rhetorical question, and while writing it, I will probably answer it myself haha!

So, we know that these days when writing an English blog, we need to be on all socials: X, Facebook, Pinterest, Youtube, Reddit, Medium, and platforms related to your niche.

BUT, as I am writing a Dutch website now, there is no linking to get from Medium or Reddit. I have looked up if people write in Dutch on Medium: they don't (never heard from it before I joined WA either), looking up keywords in Dutch on Reddit: nada, Quora: zero.

Then again, in English, you are all now trying to rank on those platforms, and that will work, fine!

So would you agree with me, if for my Dutch language, I 'just' need to be on Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, Youtube (gosh, I would need to create all new videos, djees hahaha, Pinterest and Linkedn? That would be "enough", right? For my own language, I don't think I would need to look further than these, there aren't even forums , and if there are, they aren't active at all. Maybe I could just drop a link on those, that's it.

BUT, also looking for dutch niche sites, and if they have been hit or not by googles updates, I've seen that these people ALSO have been hit! (the only way I can find out, was looking on Twitter for Dutch people, there are no real Dutch good 'SEO'- CEO's that I am aware of) I'm not sure though if they were present on socials in the first place.

It's all a bit confusing and a bit different in another language than English, while I'm sure there is a huge market for both of my niches in Dutch, that's the frustrating part.

thanks !

Lizzy

Facebook, Instagram, and YouTube are the most popular "usual" social media channels in the Netherlands (WhatsApp is actually the MOST popular "social" channel in the Netherlands).

You can obviously use the other social media platforms too, but if you're writing in Dutch, the above 3 is where you're most likely to get picked up by Dutch searchers.

The other things to do is go back to the type of keyword research I've taught you.

Get keyword, put it into Google (Dutch), go through the first 20 results and see if any social media channels are ranking.

Do this for about 10 keywords, while noting any social media platforms that are ranking, and then keep a note of the TWO most popular.

Then get your keyword and do a Google search with + social media platform

e.g.

Best Safari in Africa + Facebook

Best Beaches in Africa + YouTube

Best Cities to visit in Africa + Instagram

(as an example, do the above 3 "keyword" searches for each of Facebook, Instagram, and YouTube)

And then see how many search results come up.

The ones with the most search results that include that social media platform are the most popular in the Netherlands!!

As an example, I just put

Best Cities to visit in Africa + Instagram

into Google

And found that there were mostly instagram results until position number 27 (after this the results were like government websites, blogs, etc.)

https://www.google.com/search?q=Best+Cities+to+visit+in+Africa+%2B+Instagram&oq=Best+Cities+to+visit+in+Africa+%2B+Instagram&gs_lcrp=EgZjaHJvbWUyBggAEEUYOTIHCAEQIRigAdIBCDQ3NjNqMGo5qAIAsAIA&sourceid=chrome&ie=UTF-8#ip=1

So this tells me there isn't that much competition for that keyword on Instagram.

This could be "good" or it could be "bad"

Firstly, the "good", if you're only up against 27 other people ON INSTAGRAM for that keyword, there's a great chance of people seeing your "content" (I'm guessing images and videos) for that keyword, i.e. Best Cities to visit in Africa

But, the "bad", this could also mean that not many Dutch people use instagram to find out more information about holidays

So, realistically, it could be a case of testing the above 3 platforms (and doing the keyword research) and seeing which platforms "react best".

Once you know that, you know which platform works best for Dutch language and your niche.

But sounds like the way to go for this, thanks again! 🙂
