Basically, now that your website is "online" you'll typically start to receive a few of these requests.

This is simply people trying to obtain backlinks from you.

However, and with all due respect, as your website is fairly new, a backlink from your website to another website wouldn't count for much (a backlink from a website that has been online for 20 years and has huge authority, e.g. Forbes, New York Times, Huffington Post, etc. could actually change your life, i.e. you get about 10-20 backlinks from websites like these you will literally rank for just about any keyword you write for... just to give you an idea, I use a backlink service and a backlink from the New York Times costs me about $1,850, so you can see how highly these quality backlinks are sought after).

Google has recently "claimed" that backlinks aren't as important as they once were, but Google typically says this a LOT, and CURRENTLY, everything that is ranking in Google is a high authority domain, i.e. they have LOADS of backlinks.

As a fairly new website owner it is highly likely that the people who emailed you have blasted the same email to about 10,000 website owners, the hope is that a small percentage will reply and allow them to either write a "guest post" on their website, or provide a backlink from within an already written article.

This will happen more and more the older and more authoritative your website becomes.

The vast majority of the time if people are doing this they are basically SPAMMING, so NOT a website you would want your website to be associated with.

IGNORE

The only time you may be inclined to accept an offer like this is if the email is more personalised to you and your website, the website owner has done their "homework", they've perhaps listed a few of your articles, and maybe even provided links to some of their articles on a similar subject.

This would tell you that they are genuinely reaching out to RELEVANT websites for backlinks.

I would always look over the website that has enquired, if you're seeing a lot of articles on a wide variety of topics/subjects/niches then AVOID, if the website is completely relevant to your niche, and the content on the site seems fairly good, and it doesn't appear to be one big spam-fest then there is potential.

However, you can always reach out to me (or others) here and I can look over the website in question and let you know whether to reach out/avoid it.

But, in this case, I would completely avoid this website that has reached out to you.

p.s. your "question" on WA, referral traffic = your link has been placed on another website and someone has clicked on that link and arrived at your website.

This could be a social network where it hasn't registered on "social traffic" in analytics, this could be another website that has linked to an article on your website, but the most likely for a WA member, who has a fairly new website, is that another WA member has clicked through to your website either from you requesting a comment, requesting feedback, or having your website url in your profile.
