For those of you who don't know, Mediavine is one of the top tier ad management platforms that most people try to get into (you generally need a minimum of 50K monthly sessions to apply).

Almost 2 months ago, they revealed that they created another, lower tier ad management called Journey. You only needed to have a minimum of 10K monthly sessions to apply.

Anyways, long story short, we applied for Journey with one of our smaller sites, and a day ago they approved us! They're still doing a lot of beta testing and whatnot, so the RPMs aren't going to be the best until a few months from now. But if anyone wants me to share updates, just let me know. And if you're one of the people here who has already applied and are still waiting, then just keep waiting - you'll get the email soon enough!

I was going to join them , but then I read that the 10K would still be SEO traffic and that I probably won't get accepted, because most of my traffic is now from socials, although still over 10K. Also, I wonder if this would still pay more then what I am using now: Monumetrics? If it is a big difference, I would switch anyway 😉
thanks!

Lizzy

@ohnoo_not_her Where did you read that your traffic had to be 'SEO traffic'? This site has the majority of it's traffic coming from Pinterest, so I don't think they would care where it comes from, as long as it's legit. I would try joining just for the sake of seeing if you can get approved.

I just took this site off Monumetric, so I'll be able to tell you whether it's better or not in the next few months (once everything is better optimized). The main reason I switched, even if it is lower, is because Mediavine is so much better about user experience than Monumetric is. Below is a screenshot of Monumetric's ads - their inline ad has no padding around it, so it feels like it's right next to all my content, and their sidebar ads just go over top everything. It's poor user experience, and almost a little bit embarrassing to have to be having those type of ads running on my site (especially if I have to have the user click the X button even be able to read the content).

The screenshot in the comment below shows Journey's ads (they're built on the same way Mediavine does theirs). Way less intrusive, optimized so that the reader can experience the content, while also be able to feel like if they want to look at the ad, or skip over it, they can.

Also, the way I see it is that if you apply and are rejected, at least you tried. And if you apply, are accepted, and realize that they're not as good as Monumetric (which I highly doubt), then you can easily switch back to Monumentric (I guarantee that hundreds of the sites they're running ads on are trying to ditch them and join Journey, so they would be happy to take you back for free).

@andy aah, you're absolutely right there, Monumetrics has a horrible user experience, I noticed that to!, (especially on mobile). But I ask them if they can remove a certain add, they respond that that is possible, but then I need to switch it with some other add, as horrible to haha, thanks!

@andy Thanks for sharing this Andy.

I'm wondering if these premium ad networks allow you to choose what sort of ads to display or not to display? Or is it tailored to each user's browse history and other data?

I know it's very broad, but do they for example give you categories to check or uncheck? Something like:

[] Clothing
[] Technology
[] Fitness/Sport
[] Gaming

etc.

@yusuf Ads generally work by being tailored towards the individual. So I wouldn't worry about checking/unchecking any broad categories. But to answer your question, yes, most ad management platforms usually have a way to allow you to uncheck things that you may or may not want. Each platform is specific though - I just checked Journey and they didn't have anything like that yet. I'm assuming that will show up here soon though or if you reach out they could do it on their end.

@andy Thanks a lot Andy.

Btw, I sent you a PM on WA reporting my Pinterest progress but it seems you haven't been very active there as of late.

Is there a way to send PMs here?

@yusuf Yup - I've been busy. Baby #2 was born a little over a week ago, so I only have a few hours per day to actually do any work (like right now 😆 ). I sent you a PM just now.
