Google Announces 20 New Changes
So, hot on the heels of the ChatGPT update, Google has announced 20 new innovations that will eventually be introduced.
Here is a link to the video, but it's nearly 2 hours long!
Some of the updates will initially be introduced to the US only, so if any of you across the pond get the chance to try them, do let us know!
Any chance you can just summarise it for me???
🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Although, if it's the Gary illyes vid, I kinda already know the gist of it
Time to stop focusing/worrying about Google.
Plus, I would now say, in line with Jamie IF's video slagging off Ricky Kessler/Income School, I would now actually say that ANYONE teaching "Blogging and SEO" WITHOUT teaching backlinks and parasiting off WEb 2.0 properties, and solely focused on "Keyword research to rank in Google", DON'T KNOW WHAT THEY'RE TALKING ABOUT and can also be considered a "scam"!!

@partha I can't be held responsible if you split your sides, lol.
"So look at the intent of your target keywords, before you create content around it. Is this a term that someone would want to do research for, "what are the best beach resorts in southern Thailand?" If yes, then it is a good target keyword."
@partha And always remember:
"there are 5.5 BILLION people online...they will be somewhere, they will be searching for information, and they will be buying stuff. There will always be a way to get in front of them and search is not going away...it is simply evolving."
And don't forget: It's a marathon, not a sprint 🤣
@andy There may well be 5.5 billion people searching for information... not much use if they can't find the information you're producing!!!
🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
@andy Why can't I "like" Diane's reply that is specifically directed at ME???????
You're doing this on purpose TO ME, aren't ya???
🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
@partha Are you on mobile or desktop? I just went into your account, and verified that you were able to like that post. Lol, not sure why you're the only one this is happening to. I wish I caused this bug intentionally, so that I could take the credit, but, alas, I didn't 🤣 🤣 🤣
@diane OMG!!!! 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Right, I will do a full post on this later in the week, but this is SEO in 2024
You will currently only rank in Google based on domain authority (even for most longtail keywords)
The only way a low authority site will rank in Google for a specific keyword is if there is no other information on that subject, potentially a keyword that may only be searched for 1-2 times per month (you'd be better off targeting a more broad and competitive term and seeing if you can rank on Bing)
If you lost traffic in August 2022, December 2022, March 2023, September 2023, or March 2024 (especially, if you lost over 50% of GOOGLE traffic) you have an algorithmic penaltly placed on your website,
If you lost traffic during an HCU you have a sitewide classifier on your website, hence the massive drop in traffic, YOU WILL NOT RANK FOR ANYTHING IN GOOGLE.
The "page-by-page classifier" was clearly JUST FOR LARGE WEBSITES ON MAY 5th (Sports Illustrated, Forbes, Outlook India all had certain subdomains either deindexed or they removed these themselves, and saw a massive drop in traffic from losing those articles, BUT, everything else on their website written by their own in-house editorial team still ranks, so to make up for lost money, what have they done? They now charge MORE money for PARASITE SEO)
If your website doesn't look like a real business (people are currently adding ecommerce platforms and tools to their websites in order to "look like a real business"<---Stephen Vickers (SEO Jesus) is doing a case study on a new site and adding Shopify to it to see what happens)
Google has repeatedly said over the years DON'T WRITE FOR SEARCH ENGINES, WRITE FOR PEOPLE
Guess what?
Doing longtail keyword research in order to RANK IN GOOGLE is "writing for search engines"
Basically, every website that has the MAJORITY of their content aimed at ranking in Google by writing articles around longtail keywords HAS BEEN HIT BY HCUs and CORE UPDATES
Parasite SEO (with backlinks) is working like a treat!!! (btw, Andy, if you read this, this is what we need to with your Linkedin WA review... I'm feeling geenrous, I might give it blast with 3,000 web 2.0 property keyword anchor text backlinks<--- high DA websites WON'T get penalized for crappy backlinks, their DA is too high and they "naturally" get 1,000s of backlinks every day. If I used the same backlinks on a "normal" WordPress website you'd get slapped by Google)
As I say, I'll write up all my thoughts, but basically, if you're trying to rank a website WITHOUT DECENT AUTHORITY, if you DON'T LOOK LIKE A REAL BUSINESS (You need branded backlinks too) and come across as a straight ad revenue or affiliate marketing site, and if you're targeting longtail keywords ON YOUR WEBSITE to rank in Google, if you HAVEN'T ALREADY BEEN, you're gonna get slapped soon!!
@partha I almost quit when I read this, and when Andy says if you have only 10.000 each month! Steel nerves needed
But! I understand and trust about the longtail, plus I know of course the important to write for people.
What I had the most success in was KGR; it changed all things when I started using it.
Am I wrong that these changes haven´t stopped that ideology (...Google had destroyed a lot of sites that are just normal)? I mean, yes, you write sometimes/many times long keywords, but they are coming from the people (like forums).
The difference is that you spend more time to see if many have searched it.
Are I out with using it, or is it in line that could work?
@noteboom Hey Johann, all I can say is that if you currently have something that is working in terms of actually ranking and getting REAL Traffic from Google, then carry on doing it.
Honestly, I think the "longtail" and "writing with the sole purpose to rank in Google" is slowly but surely dying UNLESS you are a recognised brand and your website has some decent authority (lots of online branding and high authority backlinks).
So, for now, if something works, carry on doing it, but just be aware that it probably wont last forever.
This doesn't really answer your question I know, but I've written the following today, this is just how I see the future of websites and Google.
https://digitalmatrixcafe.com/community/google/google-screwed-you-27-talking-points/#post-513
@partha Thank you.
I was just thinking it idealogy. It simply hasn´t worked, and my traffic has gone to cero!
So, I am desperate and have no idea what to do.
So that is the reason I ask, the ideology part of it, because as I see GKR, it could fit all if you only think about all in the title, not the method 100%.
But probably are I wrong about it.
Any good lotto you recommend prefer 😉
@noteboom Yeah, to be honest, I never really bought into the KGR.
Sure, it worked circa 2013-2020, but this was simply because (apart from 2017 when Google went mad again, LOL) it was so easy to manipulate and rank in Google.
If you read my points in the forum post I've linked to above, sure it's not overly positive, but, the main point is
Just doing keyword research and writing articles JUST ON YOUR WEBSITE is DEAD.
Google wants real businesses, brands, user-generated content, and their own AI in the search results.
Unfortunately, for now, if your traffic has gone to zero then Google has given you an "algorithmic penalty" (just like millions and millions of other website owners), for now this means that any content you add to your website is unlikely to rank.
This is why social media, and sharing your content to web 2.0 properties (e.g. Linkedin Pulse, Reddit, Medium, Blogger, LiveJournal, Tumblr, etc. is so important in 2024 and the future)
I will write some posts soon about how to do all of this.
For now, I would say, that anyone who has lost traffic, especially if it is a big percentage of Google traffic, this isn't going to magically return any time soon.
I've mentioned in a comment somewhere today that the websites that got hit in the MASSIVE Google updates of 2011, 2012, and 2017 had to more or less change EVERY SINGLE ARTICLE on their websites, and it took around 2 years to recover.
So, for now, I would say to most people, DON'T focus on "recovery", focus on where (apart from Google) you can get traffic from to your website (as I say, I will do some articles, tutorials, and write ups on these soon)
@diane I just read this on the "other platform," Diane.
I feel sorry for all the starter members who have no idea what they are actually walking into.
Frank 🎸
@frank And unfortunately, many of them are creating MMO websites, and the AI writer is giving everybody exactly the same keywords that have zero chance of ranking, such as "Finding Profitable Niches In Affiliate Marketing."
"
Here is the summarized transcript from the Google Keynote at Google I/O 2024:
Google introduced Gemini, their generative AI, emphasizing its multimodal capabilities that allow it to process and generate content across text, images, video, and code. Sundar Pichai discussed Gemini's application in products like Search, Photos, and Workspace, highlighting its potential to transform user experiences and developer tools. Gemini 1.5 Pro and Flash models were announced, along with features like long context windows and enhanced multimodal capabilities. Google also introduced AI agents, virtual teammates in Workspace, and the LearnLM model for educational purposes, underscoring their commitment to responsible AI development.
"
I didn't watch the video nor read the transcript, so I can't verify how valid this summary is, haha.
Yup, longtail, but highly competitive, even by the old Google SERPS results.
Posted by: @frank@andy Hi Andy
How do you think Google's new Gemini implementation is going to fit together with their still-in-beta Search Generative Experience (SGE)?
Thanks,
Frank 🎸
@frank You're guess is as good as mine right now. I actually don't use Google as often as I should. @partha will be able to give a good answer in one of his future updates, I hope.
I will say that I think this is a continuation of the evolution of 'internet search' as we know it. This is my speculating and rambling a little, but I'm not quite sure where this all is even going to end up. I've actually started to get fed up with just 'normal' articles/searching as it is, and have started to like the more 'interactive' style of searching for answers, because I control the specificity of what I'm looking for.
Just the other day I was updating a W-9, and didn't know the correct answer. I tried googling it, and still couldn't get the answer. So I asked ChatGPT, got the answer I needed, asked a technical clarification question on top of my original question (and it's original response), and had the specific answer that I needed within less than 2 minutes.
I've also been using ChatGPT to help try to get specific questions when it comes to some plugins and their help-docs, since the help-docs are usually a pain to work through in some cases.
The point being is that I'm not entirely sure how blogging as we know it (or how we doing it now-a-days) is going to fit in with future 'interactive' search results.
Let's just imagine quick the future - I could search up something like "how to clear my cookies" and Google (in theory right now), could create step-by-step instructions (and in video/gif format too) on how to clear my cookies specifically to the web-browser I'm using (and the specific version - no article tailors it's results based off of the specific version I'm using). I could look up something like "swollen bump on my arm", and it could either ask me clarification questions or for images of the bump and provide me with an answer afterword, or help me rule out, one by one, what it could or couldn't be.
We're obviously not there yet, and I don't think we are going to be there for quite some time. But something that Earl Nightingale said one time about making sure that you build your business with thinking about where you're going to be 5-10-20 years on down the road. Jim Rohn calls it reaching into the future, I think.
At the end of the day, I think we need to not only embrace the updates/future, but thinking about how the future will unfold and start building our business out in accordance with that. That's part of the reason why some of the futures choices I've made/am making are specifically around what I feel the future has in store for us.
Not necessarily an answer to your question, and not an answer in and of itself, but hopefully it gives you something to think about, lol.
@frank Hey Dr. F, this doesn't really answer your question about SGE/Gemini, but here's what I've written today
https://digitalmatrixcafe.com/community/google/google-screwed-you-27-talking-points/#post-513
Realistically, should we even "worry" about the AI stuff if we're not ranking, or have an algorithmic penalty, or a sitewide classifier?
What everyone is still talking about is "recoveries" and "satisfying Google's guidelines".
How many people have "followed Google's guidelines" and still been screwed?
How often does Google say one thing and then do the opposite? (obvious example, the wording in their documents recently changed from "backlinks are very important" to "backlinks are important" and yet, everything that is currently ranking is high authority, i.e. have a lot of relevant and high authority backlinks)
My thinking is, we've spent so long trying to appease Google, trying to work out what Google wants, doing everything Google tells us to do, and then they go and do what they're currently doing.
Personally, I view Google as a "website" (that's what they originally were), but they allowed people to "play" on their website, people took advantage over and over and over again, so they changed the goalposts.
That's it.
It's the same as THIS WEBSITE, it has a forum attached so people can "use this website for content creation", but if owner doesn't like what you're doing they can soon get rid of you.
You may feel aggrieved, but you'd eventually move on.
I get that Google organic traffic produces the highest level of traffic and is typically the most engaged, but if "Google doesn't want you anymore", you can't keep "begging" to "come back", or make wholesale changes to your site to appease ONE other website, when there are another 10,000,000+ website sources to get traffic from.
And this is why, I really have nothing to say on the SGE/Gemini
(btw, not sour grapes, I still have my 2 largest, branded, business-related websites ranking very well in Google, untouched by updates, and they received between them, 928,000 in the 30 days of April 2024<--- this kinda proves that "real business" will go from strength to strength, whereas sitrs solely created to "make money online" are the main ones to get "hit")
Hi Partha
Yeah, I know that the Google game has totally for ranking low DA site articles. I was just curious about how Google will use SGE with Gemini, but I'm sure we'll see in short order. Lol
I'm really glad that your two highest-performing sites are still doing well! 👍😎
Thanks for the link; I'll have a look.

@frank Although the SEO subreddit has become a bit of a joke recently (just a massive moan fest), there's a few interesting comments on this post:
